Drawing Boobies Is Fun!
Here's a pinup I did for fellow VA-dian Chris Peterson. He's got a kickass comic coming out for calgary's April show and this freaky beetch is featured in it. It's a horror retelling of Peter Pan and an abridged version of it can be found in VA's latest anthology, Pumpkin Juice. Frankly, the story kicks several different flavors of ass and I'm glad I got to be a part of it in some way. The flesh eating mermaids don't get too much screen time in the story, so I figured I would depict one in all her hot-scary-jagged-curvy glory. Plus I can't say I've drawn anything like this before, so it ws lots of fun and possibly a nice addition to my portfolio.

2 Posts, 1 Day. Suck on that! And Enjoy It. Let the Flavors Swirl Around in Your Mouth. Mmmm...
Ribbitch
This little diddy was done up at the Drink n Draw last night. It was tons of fun was inked with a brush pen, something I'm really starting to enjoy. And gasp! What's this? Is that a background!?! Thanks to Jason and Drew for helping me nail the pose. Trees are fun to draw. Something I realized while drawing one for my Mercy Seat story, which I just finished inking last night before Drink n Draw. I wan't sure if I was going to make it at all, but I'm glad I did. The beer and association and creativity were the perfect prescription for a blues filled week.
Lucky for me, the generous Gord Cummings has agreed to letter my Mercy Seat entry. I bestow many thanks in his general direction. I'll post some pages of said story soon.
Oh! And look what's FINALLY coming out next week:
I've been waiting for the 12th issue of Casanova since December!!! It's one of the few books I buy right off the shelf instead of waiting for the trade so naturally, I'm all riled up and ready for my fix. And one of my fave artists, Jim Mahfood will be releasing his art book on the 20th as well:
I had no idea this was coming, so here's hoping I can snag me a copy. The race is on Vince!!! And in conclusion, here is another pic from Drink n Draw:
I don't know who this guy is, but Dan said he looks like a young...a young....dammit, I forget. Bring on the long weekend!!! (AKA some much needed Holiday Men catch-up time)

Gods and Monsters
Alright, so we have a Vicious Ambitious challenge that we assign every second week, and the last one was to draw another VA member's character(s). I chose Vince's Thor and Frankenstein, featured in the Rock-Tacular Round Two, probably my fave VA release to date. Used a similar inking style as the Dredd pic: one line weight, none of my usual thick outlines, and coloring in PhotoShop. I like how the coloring turned out though the drawing does look a bit rushed. Which it was. As usual.
This week, much work needed to be done, but I didn't step up to the plate. I did get page 12 Holiday Men tones in though, and finished penciling the Mercy seat story, so that's pretty good. But I need to really pick up the pace. A meeting in Red Deer on Saturday and a film shoot on Sunday probably won't help. But I'm sure it'll all work out.

Kicking Your Ass for 5 Straight Weeks...

Busy Bee McGee
It's nice to show off a penciled page for once as I'm always inking my finished work and I miss the full, sketchy look of the uninked pages. I'm going for a super animated look on this project, mostly because that's what I draw the easiest and quickest. I really like the panel where the kid is straightening his glasses, as I've been putting some serious effort into having my characters act naturally, doing things that regular people do, regardless of whether they be running, talking, fighting or what have you.
And here's the extra pic from Drink n Draw finally colored. It's AQUA LEUNG, baby, Paul Maybury and Mark Andrew Smith's upcoming underwater epic from Image. The piece is darker here than on the other computer on which it was colored. I did this on cardboard and muted the colors so that the texture still showed through. I love drawing on cardboard, something that Dave Johnson does all the time and my friend Vince enjoys this as well.
Oh and where's my head at? In listing all the other talented folk living in the Calgary area, (heretofore to be refererred to as the "Calgarea") I foolishly neglected the glamourous Ms. Fiona Staples. So, I've added her to my list of links. Be sure to visit. And for the love of god, DON'T tell her Nick sent you. I can't be held responsible for what she might do to anyone affiliated with me in any way. (I'm obviously joking, but I hate using smiley faces. Reminds me of when I was a young girl, chatting with my friends over MSN.) OMG, I'm rambling! Tee hee.
Ah well. Off to work on those comic pages. It's gonna be a looooong but fun week.
